For many people with limited mobility, accessibility challenges, or reduced hand strength, wiping after using the toilet is one of the hardest parts of the day. It takes reaching, twisting, and a firm grip. A bidet seat replaces most of that effort with a gentle, adjustable stream of water.

If you have been searching for a bidet for yourself or someone that would like more independence or cleanliness in the bathroom, a bidet seat is often the most practical place to start. It replaces the seat on the toilet you already have, so there is no separate fixture to move to.

01

How a bidet seat makes toilet hygiene easier

  • Less reaching and twisting. A nozzle extends under the seat to clean you, so you do not need to reach behind you or hold paper.
  • One fixture, one transfer. A standalone bidet means moving from the toilet to a second fixture. A bidet seat cleans you right where you are.
  • Adjustable comfort. On electric models, you can adjust water pressure, water temperature, and nozzle position to suit your body and sensitivity.
  • Help with drying. A warm air dryer reduces the need to reach around and pat dry.
  • Easier for caregivers. If someone assists you, a handheld remote lets them start and stop the wash without leaning over the toilet.
02

Features that matter most

  • Remote or App control. A handheld remote puts the buttons where you can see and reach them. The BB-1200 also works with the Bemis Living App on your phone. If you have the use of one hand, for example after a stroke, a remote lets you run the wash and dryer with that hand.
  • Saved user presets. Presets store your preferred settings, so you can start a wash with one press instead of adjusting several controls.
  • Warm air dryer. Look for adjustable dryer temperature so you can keep it comfortable.
  • Automatic nozzle cleaning. Many electric models rinse the nozzle automatically, which means less cleaning by hand.
  • Seat sensor. Wash functions only run when someone is seated, which helps prevent accidental spraying.

04

Bidet seat or bidet toilet?

A bidet seat attaches to the toilet you already have. A bidet toilet replaces the whole toilet and adds hands-free features some users need. The Discovery DLX Smart Bidet Toilet includes:

  • A remote that opens and closes the lid and seat
  • A kick button at the base: tap once to open the lid, again to raise the seat, and a third time to close and flush
  • Automatic flushing once the seat is unoccupied
  • A wall bracket for the remote, plus a warm air dryer

Because a bidet toilet replaces your toilet, it is a natural fit for a remodel or any bathroom where the toilet is already being replaced.

05

Using a bidet seat with grab bars and safety frames

  • Wall-mounted grab bars do not attach to the toilet, so they work alongside a bidet seat.
  • Freestanding safety frames that sit around the toilet without attaching to it may also work alongside a bidet seat.
  • Bolt-on safety frames often use the toilet's seat bolt holes. A bidet seat uses those same holes, so the two may not fit together.
  • Raised toilet seats may not be compatible with Bio Bidet seats. A bidet seat replaces your toilet seat, and its seat sensor needs direct skin contact to start a wash, so nothing should sit on top of it. If you need extra seat height, a taller toilet paired with a bidet seat is one option.
  • Electric models need a grounded outlet within reach of the power cord. Our compatibility guide covers toilet shape and setup.

06

Safety settings to set up first

  • Start on low temperature. We recommend low seat and water temperatures for anyone who may not sense heat well or cannot adjust the settings on their own.
  • Plan for supervision where needed. Our manuals advise close supervision for children, older adults, adults with sensitive skin, and anyone who may need help operating the seat.
