Will a Bidet Fit My Toilet? Check in 60 Seconds

Fit

Sixty seconds with a tape measure.

Most bidets fit most toilets. Three quick measurements tell you exactly which version to order.

Bio Bidet by Bemis4 Min Read

Most bidet seats and attachments fit most standard two-piece toilets, round or elongated. To check yours, you only need a tape measure and 60 seconds: measure the bowl length, check the bolt-hole spacing, and note your toilet style. Here is exactly how.

01

Measure the bowl length

With the lid up, measure from the center of the seat mounting holes to the front edge of the bowl. About 16.5 inches means round. About 18.5 inches means elongated. Almost every bidet seat comes in both sizes, so this just tells you which version to order.

02

Check the bolt-hole spacing

Measure between the two seat mounting holes. Standard spacing is about 5.5 inches, and the vast majority of toilets have it.

03

Check the tank clearance

Measure from the mounting holes back to the tank. Most bidet seats need a small amount of flat space here, and most toilets have plenty. That is it. Done with 30 seconds to spare, which we promised you and delivered.

04

One-piece, skirted, or unusual?

  • Two-piece toilets (separate tank and bowl) are the most common and the most universally compatible.
  • One-piece toilets usually work, but some have a sloped mounting area called a French curve. Measure your flat space and check the Compatibility Guide.
  • Skirted toilets hide the trapway in a smooth base. They typically still work; installation may take one extra step.
  • Wall-hung and tankless toilets are the trickiest category and deserve a check against the guide before ordering.

Borderline measurements? Do not guess. Two minutes in the Compatibility Guide beats a return shipment every time. Once it fits, Water Does It Better® takes it from there.

Questions people ask

Q

Do bidet attachments have the same fit requirements as seats?

Attachments are even more forgiving, since they sit under your existing seat. Bowl shape matters less, though you still want standard bolt spacing.

Q

Can I install a bidet myself?

In most cases, yes. A typical attachment or seat installs in 20 to 45 minutes with basic tools and no plumber. Every product includes step-by-step instructions.

Q

My toilet is decades old. Will anything fit?

Very likely. If it has standard bolt spacing and a round or elongated bowl, age is not a problem. Measure and check the guide.

Q

How do I know if my bowl is round or elongated?

Measure from the seat mounting bolts to the front of the bowl. About 16.5 inches is round; about 18.5 inches is elongated. Order the version that matches.
