How Do Bidets Use Warm or Cold Water?
Among the many technology features of modern bidet seats and attachments, few are as in-demand as warm water. Experienced bidet users may not mind cold water, but bidets with warm water and even dryers offer a less shocking yet equally refreshing clean. Find out how bidets get warm water, how to hook them up, and why warmer is always worth it!

Typically, Why Is Bidet Water Cold?
Most bidets connect to your home’s water supply at the same T-valve connection that delivers water to your toilet’s tank. That means the water from a bidet is usually room temperature for the first few seconds, as the water already in the line moves from the line to the spray. After a few seconds, however, the temperature gets colder.
Note that bidets do not use toilet bowl or tank water; your bidet will come with a splitter that diverts water before it enters your toilet.
So, if the water supply is cold, how do bidets spray warm water?
How Do Bidets Get Warm Water?
Bidets get warm water in a few different ways: a hot-water supply connection, an integrated hot water tank, or on-demand heating capabilities.
Some older models have dedicated lines that connect to a nearby sink’s hot-water supply, providing unlimited access to hot water. Of course, this approach comes with obvious drawbacks, since it requires running a water line through the cabinet, above or below the bathroom floor, and to the toilet connection. This presents increased risk of leaks and plumbing issues, and the line itself may require some insulation to keep the temperature toasty.
That’s why we only make warm-water bidets without sink hook-ups; instead, our models have integrated water heating features. They’re easier to install, more reliable, and generally more energy efficient. They heat cold water using a relatively small amount of electricity, eliminating the need for extra plumbing.
How Do Warm-Water Bidets Work?
Fortunately, there are several ways to use a warm-water bidet without a hot-water line or plumbing in a special connection to your home’s plumbing.
All warm-water bidets use one of the following methods to heat up or store warm water for every use:
Method 1: Bidet with Hot Water Tank
For most warm water bidet models, a tank integrated with the hot-water bidet seat itself – not your toilet tank – provides a limited warm-water stream to your derriere.
Tank-fed bidets warm a limited amount of water and refill the small reservoir after every use. Most tanks can hold enough warm water for up to two minutes of use before the water begins to cool down.
More expensive models offer a larger tank and a longer warm-water stream to your bidet. The tradeoff? A bigger tank takes up more space, crowding the back of the toilet seat. This can make higher-capacity bidet seats less comfortable or less visually appealing for some individuals.
Some examples of tank warm-water bidets include:
Method 2: Instant Warm Water Bidet
These bidets use a powerful on-demand heating element to deliver unlimited warm water, regardless of how long the spray is left on. Water travels through the device and is warmed before it leaves the spray nozzle.
The instant heating element uses electricity only when in use, unlike warm-water tanks that draw a small amount of electricity to keep the stored water warm. Bidets with instant warm water don’t require an attached tank at the back of the seat, making them lower-profile and potentially more comfortable than tanked options.
Bidets with an instant water heater include:
Can You Have a Warm Water Bidet Without Electricity?
You can enjoy the luxury of a warm-water bidet without a plug-in, though it requires a bit more plumbing know-how. As noted above, any warm-water bidet that taps your plumbed hot-water supply (the water supplied by your hot-water heater) requires a dedicated line from the nearest connection to the bidet.
Note that not all non-electric bidets have this second water line attachment – you’ll need to find models that allow for the secondary supply. At this time, Bio Bidet does not offer this type of warm-water bidet because it is significantly harder to install and carries an increased risk of leaks.
The solution? A warm water bidet and dryer that plugs into your nearest bathroom outlet and installs in seconds.

When it comes to how to make your bidet water warm without electricity, installation requires a little more work. In most cases, you can connect your toilet to the same hot water supply line as your bathroom sink.
If your toilet isn’t near the sink, you may want to consider choosing an electric model instead. An electric bidet seat is usually a much more cost-effective option than a new supply line.
