Why Don’t Americans Use Bidets?

Bidets are extremely popular in Europe and parts of Asia, yet a significant number of Americans have never heard of a bidet – let alone tried one.

We recently conducted a survey to see why Americans don’t use bidets. Here are the most common responses we received:

  • “I’ve never had the opportunity.”
  • “I don’t know what to expect.”
  • “I’m afraid.”
  • “I don’t know how to install it.”

Most of the responses we received revolved around the bidet experience. People are reluctant because they don’t know what to expect.

So as an American bidet manufacturer, it’s our job to shed some light on what using a bidet is like, so you can see why bidet sales have more than tripled since 2019.

What Is It Like to Use a Bidet?

Using a bidet is a cleansing and refreshing experience. Depending upon the model of bidet you’re using*, you may be sitting on a heated seat while you activate temperature-controlled water that washes away any waste on your backside. You get to sit back as the bidet cleans your bum for you – no more wiping! And unlike when using toilet paper, you’re totally clean. Then a heated air-dryer dries you. The warm air blowing over the clean skin is a comfortable and luxurious experience – one you certainly won’t find wiping with toilet paper. After you’re dry, for the cherry on top, simply stand up and the bidet will flush itself while the lid automatically closes behind you.

Say it with us, “Wow!”

*The experience and features we just described come from our Prodigy bidet toilet. (Our bidet toilets, bidet seats, and bidet attachments come with a variety of features at different price points so you’re sure to find something that will fit your budget and needs.)

Bidets are for both men and women – they include a targeted posterior wash to clean after a number 2, as well as a gentle Feminine Wash feature for ladies.

Going back to our survey, those who own and use bidets were adamant that they will never go back to wiping with toilet paper. They enjoy the luxury and cleanliness of using a bidet, as well as the added benefit of saving the trees.
